Position Title Custodian - Night Shift

Work Location: Cumberland Campus

Position Status: Full Time Hours

Reports To: Campus Night Shift Custodian Supervisor

Education Required: High School Diploma or GED education required.

Classification Associate: Support Staff Position Term 12 months

Basic Statement of Responsibilities: The Campus Night or Shift Custodian is part of a crew responsible for the overall cleaning, grounds maintenance, and general upkeep of the facilities comprising the physical plant of Allegany College of Maryland. The campus custodian functions as a member of the Physical Plant department, working cooperatively to maximize effectiveness of the delivery of services to staff and students.

Qualifications Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills High School Diploma or GED education required. Custodial, professional cleaning, and/or maintenance experience preferred. Organizational Relationships 1. Campus Night Custodian reports directly and is responsible to the Campus Night Shift Custodian Supervisor. 2. This position does not supervise any other positions. 3. This position interacts with all other members of the Physical Plant department, as well as various other groups throughout the college for the completion of duties. Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions 1. Uses appropriate equipment (manual and electronic) to clean and maintain floors in classrooms, offices and corridors. 2. Collects and disposes of trash, scrap and garbage. 3. Moves furniture, office equipment and other items which might involve the lifting of heavy or bulky articles. 4. Maintains lavatories in clean and sanitary condition. 5. Washes and cleans windows, light fixtures, ventilators and other items. 6. Cleans and polishes desks, chairs, tables, cabinets and other classroom or office equipment. 7. Participates in snow removal by shoveling, using snow blowers, spreading abrasives or chemicals, sweeping, or as otherwise directed. 8. Unloads and delivers supplies if needed. 9. Locking and unlocking doors and windows 10. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Secondary Responsibilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Familiarity with cleaning products, procedures, and equipment in general. Custodial, professional cleaning, and/or maintenance experience preferred. Working Conditions Exposure to extreme weather conditions including subzero temperatures and hot and humid conditions. Employees in this job classification are designated as essential employees and must report to work as scheduled by their supervisor, in the event of emergencies which include but are not limited to: (snow and ice removal, flooding, loss of electricity, etc.), which may also entail working during periods of time that the college is typically closed.
